Based in New Paltz, New York, William Johnson Construction has been building custom homes in the Hudson Valley area for over 15 years.
William Johnson (pictured left) has made the design and building of “living sculpture” structures his
life’s work. He found his vocation at the age of nine, when he built his first treehouse in his backyard in
Georgia and, fittingly, began his professional career in earnest with a commission from a client who saw a
treehouse William built as his living quarters at the University of Georgia.
Many commissions followed as his reputation grew.
Johnson and his work are well known in the Hudson Valley, where he lives, and beyond. Over a career
that spans twenty years, he has broadened his knowledge and understanding of various types of
historical and modern architecture--traveling to Japan, for example, to study traditional timber-frame
building methods. He names Richard Neutra, Rudolf
Schindler, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Le Corbusier as his main inspirational influences.
His company's past projects have included the relocation and the restoration of antique barns and the incorporation of additional recycled materials. Johnson is known to use natural building methods, including the use of straw bale insulation. Many of his custom home designs feature concrete flooring with radiant heating and energy efficient windows and doors. William Johnson Construction also has experience connecting to solar and geothermal energy sources.
